Mason City man arrested for driving with open container of booze, other charges

MASON CITY – A man now calling Mason City home was arrested Thursday for several violations including driving with an open container of alcohol.

Rashad Ocasio Bettis, age 35 and now living on North Monroe Avenue, was stopped by Mason City police at Eisenhower Avenue and 19th Street SW Thursday at midnight. He was arrested for driving while barred, no insurance, and open container.

Bettis has been convicted of a range of crimes in other Iowa counties, including theft, driving while barred (habitual), domestic abuse, assault, interference with official acts, criminal mischief, drunk driving, and others. He owes Iowa courts thousands of dollars in unpaid fines, fees and costs.

Bettis was released and cited for the infractions.
