hawkeye-harvest-food-bank1MASON CITY – The Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank received a generous donation from a citizen last week.

A spokesman for the food bank said that an individual called Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and “wanted to stop in and see what we did and look at the food we give out”.

The man was given a tour of the facility at Mohawk Square.

“After the tour they talked about maybe going grocery shopping but than after Dave Dunn talked to them some more, they decided to write out a check for $2,000,” the spokesman said. “That will buy around 14,000 pounds of food. That’s enough to feed about 700 people.”

In other news from the food bank, staff is still looking to relocate.

“At this time the specially appointed committee has sorted through more than twenty different location possibilities,” a spokesman said last week. “We are still evaluating the three options: leasing a building and having some remodeling; purchasing an existing building and remodeling it to meet our unique needs and city codes, purchasing a lot and building a facility. Still more work to be done before the board can evaluate all these options and decide what will be the best choice. In any event we will need to do a capital campaign to help with the big increase in our monthly building operation expense. Ideally the food bank would like to be in that facility by October.”

Anyone interested in making a contribution to the Capital Campaign should call the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank at 641-424-3073.

  1. It’s sad that there is so much need. Kudos to those who donate. I feel I should do more when reading things like this.

    1. Yes it is mediator, yes it is.

Well, if you have the means, then you should act on your feelings.
It doesn’t have to be a lot in order to help. And it can be your time vs money.
Whatever you can do is a good thing.
One of the things that I do, is instead of birthday presents for family, I donate that money instead.
Food bank, Salvation Army, whatever it is, helps!
