MASON CITY – The Lifelong Learning Institute at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) has joined the Road Scholar Institute Network. The Road Scholar Institute was formerly called Elderhostel and offered travel learning opportunities to retired adults. They now offer a network for other Lifelong Learning Institutes. Belonging to this network will open up opportunities for sharing of best practices from all member Lifelong Learning Institutes from across the United States.

According to Susan Nagle, Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute at NIACC, “This partnership will help our 500 plus members at NIACC to learn more about the opportunities available for travel learning with the Road Scholar program.”

NIACC’s Lifelong Learning Institute focuses on fun, friendship and college level learning. Members can take advantage of short courses, lectures and discussions, study circles, social events, civic engagement opportunities and more. Topics for the offerings are based on member requests and interests.

The $99 annual membership fee provides members with benefits such as use of NIACC facilities, library use and orientation, passes to athletic events; artist chats prior to Performing Arts Series event; career/retirement coaching sessions; college credit course audits at ½ tuition and Continuing Education computer classes at ½ tuition. There is no additional tuition for Lifelong Learning Institute courses and members can register for as many as classes as they like for two semesters.
