MASON CITY – The Mason City Fire Department held their annual open house on Sunday, October 13th. Families were welcomed to check out equipment, participate in demonstrations, and learn about fire safety. Some of the options were to watch a car cut in half, crawl through the smoke house, see the new 105 ft tower in action, watch a kitchen fire demonstration, or hold a fire hose. Elementary aged children also had the opportunity to enter to win a fire truck ride for themselves and four friends to school.
There were participants of all ages who enjoyed the afternoon, some that say they look forward to this event each year. One mother, who brought her daughter to enjoy the event, remarked that she “has a new respect for what fire fighters go through after watching some of those demonstrations!”
