Winter Storm Continues to Impact Iowa’s Roadways

AMES, Iowa – Feb. 27, 2013; 5 a.m. update – The winter storm will continue to impact roadways in portions of central and southeast Iowa through this morning. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s WeatherView system is presently reporting a north-northeast wind of 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Snow is also continuing to fall across much of the state.

A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service’s remains in effect in until noon for much of central and eastern Iowa; a hazardous weather outlook advisory remains in effect for southwest Iowa.

Iowa’s 511 system is presently reporting that roadways in southwest, south central, central and much of eastern Iowa are either partially or completely covered with precipitation. Road conditions in the northwest are reported as normal winter driving conditions or wet. Drivers should exercise extreme caution during the morning commute and while otherwise traveling this morning. Make sure to carry appropriate winter survival items in your vehicle.

The Iowa DOT continues to urge motorists to provide feedback on travel conditions via Twitter and Facebook, while stopped in a safe location and not while driving.
