Salton City, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio station seized more than $35,000 of methamphetamine at the Highway 86 checkpoint located between Westmorland and Salton City, California.
The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 1:45 pm, after a Border Patrol canine alerted to a white 2001 Ford Explorer. The vehicle was referred to secondary for further inspection where agents discovered the passenger, a 15-year-old female Mexican citizen, was in possession of falsified immigration documents. After further inspection, agents discovered that the female had two duct taped packages attached to her torso. The packages contained 0.5 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at an estimated street value of more than $35,000.
The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old male Mexican citizen, was in possession of valid immigration documents.
The methamphetamine, vehicle and two subjects were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
