Harkin Announces Over $1.2 Million for Spectrum Resources in Des Moines

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Spectrum Resources of Des Moines has been awarded $1,211,405 from the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Reintegration of Ex-Offenders-Adult Programs.  The funding will be used for employment services and support for ex-offenders to reintegrate into their communities.  Harkin helped secure funding for the grants through his role as chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees this grant program.  He is also chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

“Reintegration programs are crucial for job training, employment assistance and other wraparound services that assist at-risk Iowans and allow them to get back on their feet,” said Harkin.  “With this funding, Spectrum Resources will be able to assist many Iowans and pair their newly-acquired skills with available jobs in the community.”

With the funding announced today, Spectrum Resources will assist 400 returning ex-offenders with reentry services.  Each client will undergo six months of program service and three months of follow-up support.  Provided services include mentoring, work readiness training, job placement assistance, and access to postsecondary, vocational, and pre-apprenticeship training programs.
