From the Waterloo Police Department:
On Sunday, March 25, 2012 at approximately 1:15 PM, Waterloo Police responded to an motor vehicle accident at Fletcher Avenue and University Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found that the accident involved a car and a moped. According to witnesses, the moped was traveling southbound on Fletcher Avenue, ran the red light, and was struck by a car going eastbound on University Avenue.
The driver of the car was Katherine Waechter, age 48, of 4801 Ponderosa Drive, Waterloo, IA. She was not injured. The driver of the moped was Robert Leatherman, Sr., age 76, of 629 Magnolia Parkway, Waterloo, IA. Waterloo Fire Rescue transported Leatherman to Covenant Medical Center. Leatherman died from head and chest injuries. No citations were issued.
