
HUMBOLDT, IOWA – A Northern Iowa youth is facing a felony charge after an investigation into a recent fire at a local middle school.
On Wednesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM, the Humboldt Police Department and Humboldt Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the Humboldt Middle School, located at 1400 Wildcat Road. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a fire in a bathroom of the building. Students and staff were promptly evacuated.
Following a joint investigation by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the staff at Humboldt Middle School, it was determined that the fire was intentionally set. A 14-year-old male from Humboldt was taken into custody. The teenager has been charged with Arson, which is classified as a Class C Felony.
The suspect was referred to Juvenile Court Services and released to a parent. The Humboldt Police Department and the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office assisted in the case.
