FAYETTE, IOWA – An 18-year-old Fayette man is in custody facing a string of felony charges after a month-long investigation into allegations of sexual assault and the distribution of illegal substances to minors.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office initiated the probe in late March 2026 after receiving reports of a suspect enticing, grooming, and providing drugs to a minor in the Fayette area.

On March 24, 2026, deputies executed a search warrant at a residence located at 104 Alexander St. in Fayette. During the search, authorities seized marijuana, THC edibles, and drug paraphernalia.

According to officials, further interviews and forensic evidence gathered from phone records indicated that the suspect, identified as Shawn Elliot Kuhse, of Fayette, Iowa, attempted to sexually assault another minor at the home. Investigators allege Kuhse offered illegal substances to the victim in exchange for sexual favors.

Kuhse was arrested on April 22, 2026, on multiple outstanding warrants. He has been charged with:

  • Distribution of Illegal Substances to Persons Under 18 (Class B Felony)

  • Lascivious Acts with a Child-Solicitation (Class D Felony)

  • Enticing a Minor Under 16 for Sexual Purpose (Class D Felony)

  • Grooming (Class D Felony)

  • Possession of Marijuana (Serious Misdemeanor)

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)

Kuhse (pictured at top) was transported to the Fayette County Jail, where he is being held on a $25,300 cash-only bond. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
