Mason City School Nurse Named as one of the 100 Great Iowa Nurses

Patricia Niver, Mason City Community School District Nurse, has been selected to receive the “100 Great Iowa Nurses” designation. The “100 Great Iowa Nurses” program recognizes outstanding nurses whose exceptional contributions to patients, colleagues and the profession are truly remarkable.

Over 500 nominations were collected this year for the 100 Great Iowa Nurses from colleagues, patients and others. The nominations were first evaluated by 21 reviewers (all prior recipients) around the state. Final selection was determined by representatives of the Iowa Hospital Association, Iowa Nurses Association, Iowa Nurses Foundation and the University of Iowa College of Nursing.

Rita A. Frantz, Chairwoman, 100 Great Iowa Nurse Program stated, “Those chosen for this honor are to be commended for advancing and leading the profession of nursing, and for demonstrating excellence in direct-care delivery. These are the nurse leaders who lead through mentoring, thereby improving patient care for all of Iowa.”

Niver has been a nurse for the Mason City Community School District for over 35 years. Currently, 2011-2012 school year, she serves the John Adams Middle School 7, Harding Elementary and Hoover Elementary school buildings.

A celebration honoring the recipients of this designation will be held Sunday, May 6 at Veteran’s Auditorium in downtown Des Moines, at 3:00 p.m.
