North Iowa Man sentenced to prison following 4th probation violation

MASON CITY – On Tuesday, October 4th, Joshua Henry Joyce, age 21, had a two year suspended sentence imposed on his 4th probation violation in Hancock County District Court by Judge James Drew.

Originally Joshua Joyce was arrested by Garner police in November 2008 and charged with criminal mischief 2nd Degree a class D felony after causing $2,106 in property damage.

Brandon Anderson was also arrested as part of the incident and accused of causing $931 in property damage.

Both Joyce and Anderson plea bargained the original charge down to an amended charge of criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, an aggravated misdemeanor. Both defendants received deferred judgments in January 2009 for Joyce and November 2009 for Anderson in Hancock County District Court.

Court records show Joshua Joyce was convicted of his 1st probation violation in the case four month into his probation term in May 2009 and sentenced to 7 days in county jail.

By January 2010 Joshua Joyce was convicted of a 2nd probation violation in the case and had his probation extended for an additional 2 years, and was given a 2 year suspended prison sentence.

By April 2011, Joshua Joyce was on the run from law enforcement after a warrant was issued on a 3rd probation violation. Joyce was captured in a vehicle in Mason City by law enforcement on that warrant and other criminal charges in Cerro Gordo County.

On Aug 9th, 2011 Judge James Drew sentenced Joshua Joyce in Hancock County District Court to 180 days or until maximum benefits are achieved at Beje Clark a residential facility in Mason City following his 3rd probation violation conviction.

Joyce promptly escaped custody of Beje Clark on September 7th and was captured on September 14th in Mason City. As a result he was charged with the 4th probation violation that ended in his two year prison sentence being imposed.

Josh Joyce has also been charged with escape of a felon in the Beje Clark escape. Joyce has an arraignment on that charge in Cerro Gordo County District Court on October 10th at 8:30 a.m.
