DES MOINES – Vanishing Governor Kim Reynolds and her political party keep making changes to business rules in our state in an alleged attempt to grow the economy, but a new study shows Iowa is one of the fastest in the nation at losing manufacturing jobs, long a foundation for the common Iowan to make a living.

Even as Iowa lags badly in manufacturing, Reynolds (pictured at top via her social media) and the GOP in Iowa have slashed employment insurance premiums for employers, shamed folks into working for “the man”, never tried to raise the minimum wage, snubbed unions, and more, with results recently showing Iowa may have the worst economy in America.

MASON CITY – The NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center hosted the 2025 Youth Entrepreneurial Academy (YEA) on June 16th-20th. The winners were:

CEDAR FALLS – The University of Northern Iowa is proposing a mixed-use development known as Panther District that would add an exciting mix of restaurants, retail establishments, a hotel and housing options to the Cedar Falls community.

MASON CITY – Bypassing the legal right to seize a house in town well past the point of saving, city hall in Mason City instead bought this 90-year-old house from the owner so that it cab be demolished.

MASON CITY – The NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and North Iowa Area SBDC  announced that Hallie Erdahl of Georgette in Clear Lake as their June 2025 Entrepreneur of the Month.

Georgette is a pop-up bridal shop in Clear Lake, Iowa, offering luxury bridal gowns at accessible prices. Hallie Erdahl founded Georgette in 2025 and the business reflects her lifelong passion for fashion and bridal elegance.

Even with the opportunity to use a “tipping screen” to leave a low-wage-earner a little extra, many Iowans are opting out or leaving peanuts, angering servers, sandwich makers and others just trying to make a living, and now Hawkeye-state-dwellers have gotten a reputation as total cheapskates, according to a new study.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wells Fargo opened accounts for folks with no permission, snagged cash with reckless abandon from accounts, and committed “widespread consumer abuses,” leading to billions in fines and a growth restriction slapped on their Capitalism-at-all-cost financial and banking business seven years ago, but that restriction was lifted by the Federal Reserve this week.

NIT has previously reported on Wells Fargo’s record profits, a settlement in which Iowa got millions (for violating state consumer protection laws over several sales practices, including creating unauthorized accounts), and how the federal government ordered them to pay billions for funny business in folks’ accounts.
