SIOUX CITY – A Fort Dodge woman who did not learn her lesson after a previous drug dealing conviction was busted and prosecuted again, this time landing in federal prison for 12 years.
Amanda Johnson, f/k/a Amanda Adams, 35, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, pled guilty on July 31, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine. In 2020, Johnson was convicted in federal court of the same conduct – conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting another in the possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, for which she was on supervised release during her commission of this offense.
Evidence at the plea hearing and December 12 sentencing hearing showed Johnson’s involvement in a conspiracy that distributed more than 1500 grams of methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area for six months in 2023. On November 15, 2023, Johnson and another distributed about ¼ pound methamphetamine in a controlled drug purchase transaction in Waterloo, Iowa. On December 4, 2023, Johnson distributed approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover agent, after making an agreement to distribute ¼ pound methamphetamine in a controlled drug purchase and then fled the scene.
Sentencing was held before United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. Johnson was sentenced to 144 months’ imprisonment and must serve a term of eight years of supervised release following the imprisonment. Johnson was also sentenced to an additional 24 months’ imprisonment, consecutive to her sentence in this case, for revocation of her supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Johnson remains in custody of the United States Marshal until she can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa DCI Laboratory, Fort Dodge Iowa Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and the Waterloo, Iowa, based Tri-County Drug Task Force.
