Carol Jean Miller, was born on August 29, 1956 in Estherville, Iowa to Floyd and Iva Jean (Hildreth) Helmick. She passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on August 13, 2025 at the age of 68.
Carol was united in marriage to James Miller on September 7, 1974. The couple made their home in rural Estherville for many years. Carol worked as a nurse’s aide throughout the years at Grace Estates in Emmetsburg and Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Carol loved the water, especially going boating. Wags and Snickers, her puppies, were her pride and joy; but her family was most important to her. She would often find joy in playing games on her tablet. Noodles and meatballs were her specialty in the kitchen.
Carol is survived by her husband of 51 years Jim of rural Estherville; her children Jeremy (Tara) Miller of Graettinger, Darcy (Steve) Smith of Estherville, and Bobbie (Travis) Kollasch of Graettinger; her grandchildren Austin Miller, Blake Miller, Kevin Smith, Kirsten Smith, Emily Miller, Bre Jespersen, Natalie Kollasch, and Kolton Kollasch; her great-grandchildren Karson, Boone and Jax Smith, Elecia and Elyzah Halsrud, Rhilynn and Madilyn Krug, Kohyn, Callum, and Baby Miller (in August). She is also survived by her fur babies Wags and Snickers; sisters JoAnn (Tom) Plumhoff, Linda (Sonny) Pyawasit, and Velda (Rick) Cole; sisters and brothers-in-law Lisa (Denny) Harris, Dawayne (Linda) Miller, Barbara (Tony) McQueen, and Willie Debose; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents Iva Jean and Floyd Helmick, brother Robert (Deanna) Helmick, half-sister Beverly Titus, mother-in-law Barbara Kathman, father-in-law James Miller, and fur babies Buddy and Sam.
