Peggy Ann Jones, 75, of Rockwell, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly January 15, 2025 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday February 2, 2025 at The Hub, 501 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, IA 50428.
Peggy was born August 29, 1949 in Vineland, New Jersey; daughter of John and Elsie (Ridgeway) Terwilliger. She graduated from Vineland High School with the class of 1967. There she met Thomas “Tom” Jones and they were steady high school sweethearts. Life separated them for a time and she was united in marriage to Chester Walzer from November of 1972 to 1996 and they raised two children together. By some string of fate; she and Tom were reunited and their love resumed. They married October 14, 1997 in a small church in Clear Lake Iowa. While living in New Jersey, Peggy worked as a telephone operator and homemaker for many years. Later when she lived in Iowa, she began working for Dollar General. She worked her way up to store manager and dedicated 25 years of her working life there. Over the last five years she has lived at Rockwell Nursing Home and has made many friends there. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rockwell Nursing Home for ensuring Peggy was well cared for.
One truly needed to know Peggy to love her. She was ornery; Opinionated, and stubborn to a fault; but anyone who had the pleasure of calling her “Mommom” knew they had a spot in her heart. Peggy was a family-oriented person, with her granddaughters holding a particularly special place in her heart. She was their steadfast champion, doing everything within her power to ensure they felt loved and supported in all their endeavors. She loved to cook and everyone always looked forward to her potato salad, macaroni salad or devilled eggs at any gathering or cookout. Peggy appreciated jewelry and always left the house put together; never wearing the same exact set twice. She wouldn’t let her family leave the house unkempt and would be the first to put out an outfit or fix someone’s collar or hair. She and Tom would always be out for a ride on the trike in the summertime.
She had a passion for shopping and yard saleing. Peggy also enjoyed and had a skilled hand for drawing. Traveling was another of Peggy’s delights, especially when it involved family vacations that created lasting memories and strengthened the bonds she held so dear. An animal lover at heart, Peggy had a special affinity for birds, raising parakeets, canaries, and parrots with care and affection. Her Great Danes, Apollo, Zoe, and Lexi, were more than pets; they were her babies.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Tom; children, Christine (Joe) Lacy and Brian (Mary) Walzer; grandchildren, Tayler (Chad), Morgan (Noah), Erin, and two others; great-grandchildren, Averlie and Klayton; siblings, John (Carmen) Terwilliger and Joann (Bud) Sheppard; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Preceding her in death are her parents; and beloved furbabies, Apollo, Zoe, and Lexi.
