MASON CITY – Charges have been filed in a fatal Mason City crash on Birch Drive from last October.
On oct. 27, 2010, a single vehicle driven by Dustin McMurray crashed in the innebago River. A passenger, Colby Schmidtke“>Colbe Schmidke, died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. The crash has been investigated by the Mason City Police Department and Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Dustin McMurray, 17 years old, of Mason City, has recently been charged with speed and failure to maintain control regarding this incident. McMurray faces a fine of $625 for each violation due to a fatality resulting from the alleged violation. No further charges are expected at this time.
Four Mason City police officers received a Life Saving Award for their valor in the incident.
