Paul Douglas Cummins the son of Darrel and Jean (Lubenow) Cummins was born December 23, 1955, in Estherville, Iowa. He died on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his home in rural Ringsted, Iowa at the age of 68.
He received his education in the Ringsted Schools. Paul was employed with Todd & Sargent out of Ames, Iowa. He built concrete grain elevators for 20 years all over the country. After an accident in 1988 changed his life, he slowed down and settled back in Ringsted. He worked at Kum & Go in Armstrong then at K&H in Burt. He entertained countless people with his colorful stories and his vast collection of neckties (338 at last count) and made lifelong friends there with his big smile and kind words. Paul retired from the “J O B” in 2020.
Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding his Harley, which he put nearly 200,000 miles on and gave rides to anyone who asked friends, family, or strangers. Papa Paul’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. For years and even after they were grown, he turned his house into a place for them to explore and tinker and just have fun. They and anyone who visited him knew they were front and center in his life. His kindness was recognized by all he met and his generosity of time and self, made an impression on so many.
Left to cherish Paul’s memory are his daughter, Tanya (Ted) Diekmann of Starbuck, Minnesota; grandchildren, Haley Holl; Tierney (Jordan) Gillespie; Tiffany (Curtis) Holl; Zachary (Zoey) Holl; Mason Diekmann; great-grandsons, Hudson and Braxton Gillespie; two great-granddaughters to be; brother, David Cummins and sister, Lois (Ivan) Williams; nieces and nephews, Bethany (Scott) Caswell, Brandee Cummins, Dustin (Kelsie) Williams; great nieces and nephews; uncles and cousins.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Cummins and many close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Arbor Day Foundation or donor’s choice.
