MASON CITY — North Central International (NCI) recently presented North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) student Ryder Lestrud with a $3,000 scholarship on behalf of Navistar and International Trucks.
The scholarship is part of Navistar/International Trucks partnership with the TechForce Foundation, a non-profit that is committed to career exploration and workforce development in the technical education space. TechForce has awarded over $18 million in scholarship and grants since 2007, by partnering with businesses and industry in the technical career space.
“I completed by automotive mechanic degree and now I am in the diesel tech program,” says Lestrud. “I wanted to do more mechanical work with the engines. I’ve been working to get enough scholarships to apply for my college education so that way I can use additional dollars towards the tools I will need as a mechanic.”
The International Truck scholarship provided to Lestrud will help with his tuition while he continues his schooling at NIACC.
“We are always looking to work with the next generation of diesel technicians and support them in their educational endeavors,” says Nate Meier, NCI Service Director. “We offer additional tuition and tool reimbursement incentives for new service technicians who join our team.”
