Mason City man accused of felony burglary, disturbing Wal-Mart

MASON CITY – A man who allegedly forced his way into a North End Mason City home and beat a resident there is now in jail awaiting a court date.

According to Mason City police, Frederick Denbigh Woods, age 18 of Mason City, is accused of forcing his way into an occupied residence in the 100 block of 5th ST NE and assaulting the resident there on December 4th, 2013. The resident’s injuries were not life-threatening. Police filed a felony B first degree burglary charge against Woods on December 9th, and an arrest warrant was issued that day by Judge Ron Wagenaar.

Then, on December 10th, 2013, Mason City police were dispatched at 12:33 AM to Wal-Mart, 4151 4th Street SW, for a disturbance allegedly involving Woods and other subjects. Woods and the other subjects causing the disturbance were gone prior to arrival of police.

After investigating, Woods and the other subjects were located at 604 North Pennsylvania Avenue at about 1:03 AM on the morning of December 10th. Eight Mason City police officers arrived on the scene, along with deputies from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office. Woods was arrested on the outstanding first degree burglary warrant, but not before hassling police officers.

“Woods was not cooperative initially when confronted by police officers and was also charged with Interference with Official Acts,” officer Mike McKelvey told NIT.

The other subjects were told they are banned from Wal-Mart.

Woods is still being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $25,000 bond as he awaits a December 20th court date.
