OBIT: Joseph B. Dorweiler

Joseph Bernard Dorweiler, age 83, formerly of Glenwood, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa on March 20, 2023, surrounded by family.

Joseph Bernard Dorweiler, age 83, formerly of Glenwood, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa on March 20, 2023, surrounded by family. Joe was born on July 11, 1939, in Bancroft, Iowa. He was the oldest of nine children of George and Lucille (Hynes) Dorweiler. Joe graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1957. An auto mechanic by trade, Joe worked at several gas stations and car dealerships in St. Benedict, Algona, Marshall, Minnesota, and Glenwood Minnesota. He operated his own service station, Joe’s Auto Service, in Glenwood for many years.

Joe was united in marriage to Eleanor Eckert on October 7, 1986. The couple made their home together in Grove Lake, Minnesota, and shared 30 years of marriage together. They enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and traveling together. They also enjoyed hosting dances for friends in the hay mow of the barn on their hobby farm.

Joe is survived by children: Michelle (Clyde) Weitl of Templeton, Iowa, Larry Middleton of Texas, Lynda (Keith) Schirck of Carroll, Iowa, and Tim (Karla) Dorweiler of Farmington Hills, Michigan; and step-daughter Lavina (Raymond) Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also survived by his siblings Helen Youngwirth, Betty (Pat) VonBank, Patricia Bode, Bonnie (Grant) Barickman, Mary (Bob) Peterson, Cathy (Tony) Tauke, and Ken (Michele) Dorweiler, along with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, his parents, brother Raymond, infant son Michael, brothers-in-law David Youngwirth and Marvin Bode, nephews Brian Bode, Kevin Bode, Doug Dorweiler, and niece Carol Grage.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with Deacon William Black officiating. His family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
