MASON CITY – A Groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for Mason City’s Principal Pavilion project.
The ceremony was held at the Federal Plaza entrance to Southbridge Center, exactly where the Performing Arts Pavilion will be built. In charge of the project is Henkel Construction, which said, “A great day for our community, and for Henkel Construction Company and Accord Architecture, as this groundbreaking ceremony is a milestone for the long-awaited and much anticipated Principal Pavilion project. Whether is a municipal band performance, or a rock n’ roll concert, we can’t wait for the music to begin.”
The pavilion project will cost well in excess of $1 million. It will assist in repurposing Southbridge to sustain it as a community gathering place and will also provide a quality performance venue and storage area for the Mason City Municipal Band.
The unique design, with indoor/outdoor back-to-back performance stages, features a Prairie School design more in keeping with the architecture already present on the Plaza, including the Historic Park Inn Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Accord Architecture of Mason City worked with the City of Mason City and the all-volunteer Performing Arts Pavilion Committee on the plans.
The flexible space design will accommodate a variety of entertainment—from the large municipal band to individual musical acts. The interior companion venue will provide a rain site for performance activities such as the North Iowa Band Festival and Friday Night Live events. In addition, the annual Tuba Christmas celebration will be able to host even more performers and spectators.
The project will supposedly be paid for by Iowa Reinvestment Act funding, private contributions, corporate contributions, and grant funding. A contribution from The Principal Foundation has secured naming rights for the pavilion.
harold hill makes another sale.
ya, big waste of money
Another senseless useless stupid concept direct out of city hall.
Not directed out of City Hall. It was orchestrated out of the Chamber, where all the city’s decisions are actually made.
Where is the hotel that is a requirement for Mason City to get the State of Iowa funding? Looks like us taxpayers are getting taken for a ride again.
Been in the works for at least 6 years.
And you will by law get that shot. Why? Because you’ll have to carry a passport of sorts to enter many public areas. Smartphone screen will appear green for enter. Red for no admittance. Scanned at a machine while you enter. Nationwide. It’s the only way. Iowa in this respect is ahead of other states and gets an B+. As for the handling of the rest it’s a C-. Only at NIT do you get the news you deserve. Globe Gazette not so much.
maybe they should apply your theory to voting
