Iowa prison inmate who tried to have rival business owner and family killed, dies in prison

CORALVILLE – An Iowa prison inmate who tried to have a rival business owner and his family killed, has died in prison, officials say.

Justin Lee Dewitt was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m. today at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center. His cause of death is yet to be determined. An autopsy that will be performed by the Johnson County Medical Examiner. Dewitt was 39 years old at the time of his death.

Dewitt had been incarcerated since July 27, 2018 for multiple counts of Attempted Murder (707.11) and Solicitation to Commit Murder (707.3A). In 2016, Dewitt tried to hire a hitman to kill a rival businessman and his family, which included children.
