Police officers responded to 932 38th Street SE at 5:43 a.m. Saturday morning for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene to find an adult male victim inside the residence who had sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers initiated emergency medical care to the victim. Shortly thereafter, firefighters and Area Ambulance Service personnel provided medical care and the victim was transported to a local hospital.
The Police Department has been notified by the Linn County Medical Examiner’s Office that the victim died at 6:47 a.m. this morning. The victim has been identified as Wayne Trabrai Jones, age 31, of Cedar Rapids.
The body will be transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the victim was targeted.
There is an active, ongoing homicide investigation, police say.
