MASON CITY – June 1 marked the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month, and a family-friendly event is planned in Mason City later this summer to celebrate and bring awareness.
LGBTQ Pride Month is described by advocates as “a celebration of monumental victories, equal rights, and an important reflection time for those we have lost.”
Across Iowa, “Prides” will be held in various cities this summer for anyone interested to attend and celebrate. Sioux City, Dubuque, Des Moines, Iowa City, Coralville, Mason City, Cedar Rapids, Orange City, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Ames, and the Quad Cities are among the cities where these events will take place.
Mason City Pride says, “Planning is well underway and we are excited about this family-friendly event! There will be the typical music, drag queens, food, and vendors. This year, we’ve been thinking outside the box. While we can’t give everything away just yet, there might be puppies. And craft beer. And a lot, lot more.”
No event location has been announced, but in the past, the gala was held in East Park. This year’s event is slated for August 18.
Tickets to the Mason City event are being sold online for $5 each.
Iowa Safe Schools, a LGBTQ statewide organization, released a statement, saying, “On behalf of Iowa Safe Schools, we are very excited to be a part of all the Prides across Iowa. It is an important time to celebrate and affirm identities, recognize the progress we’ve made, and remember those who sacrificed so much to get us to where we are today. As our fight continues for LGBTQ youth, Pride is a time to re-energize for all the work we have yet to accomplish, including banning conversion therapy, adding gender identity to the states hate crimes law, and building mental health services for LGBTQ youth. Pride is much more than a celebration, it symbolizes the collective progress of creating safe and inclusive communities across Iowa.”

ship them all to calif where they are wanted. We don’t want them here. While we are at it send a bunch of the windy city rejects we got also. Plus maybe some of the south of the border losers all these rejects ruining our good midwest values
Bend over and celebrate!
I liked it better when they were in the closet. I will say that it appears to me that gays have a “need” for a lot of attention.
Gays bother you because they force you stare your years of oppressed sexuality right in the face. They are open and proud of who they are while you continue to stifle and suppress those sexual desires you have those of the same gender. Classic self hating closeted gay syndrome.
Look who is talking. The Closet Internet TROLL trying to convince people she is normal. Ha, ha, ha.
I ate a Large BLT today and it was delicious. 5 bucks for a BLT is cheap.
Then there is the LGBTQ sandwich consisting of lettuce, guacamole, bacon, tomatoes and sliced, hard-boiled quail eggs.
Now these weirdos are hijacking the LGBLT ! Just like they did to the rainbow ….
The people that have the biggest problem with homosexuality often are self hating closeted gays themselves.
wrong. Try again.
There will be 10 people there, and KIMT will report that there were 200.
No because its not in Rochester.
Nonsense, I have heard gays say that. It’s just an excuse for gays to find others like themselves. It isn’t true!
Homosexuality is either a birth defect or mental illness. Period. It does seem they have a need for attention which is odd.
Nonsense, I have heard this stupid line of BS for years. No truth in it!
Homosexuality is either a birth defect or mental illness. Either way they should not be looked down upon and at the same time they should not be promoting this as “normal”.
Looks like I struck a nerve with you. You had to type the same comment out twice, once under anonymous and once under this excruciatingly clever pseudonym. Embrace who you really, come on out of that closet!
Was Bodacious your teacher? Are you Bodacious
Was Bodacious your teacher? Are you Bodacious?
Whiny Little Bitch had to leave to get ready for the parade.
First, I don’t care if the people involved like what lifestyle they have.I wonder why is it always have to be a public display? Stand out in the crowd and yell and holler how proud you are and your /(take a pick) issue. WHY? Can’t they just enjoy life without trying to advertise?
But as someone once said, the most insecure are the most to have issues of mental illness. oppps, I shouldn’t have quoted that statement, without first giving credit to Mr. Freud. (he was a nut bag too) IMO which doesn’t count for anything —because it is only my opinion.
Yeah … there are other letters of the alphabet left out !! WTF !!
And what are they?
What about RSTV and Unicorns ?
