Ankeny police say woman shot dead by cop had BAC of 0.145

Police Car LightsANKENY – The city of Ankeny released an update to a police shooting that left a woman dead over the holiday weekend.

Ankeny police officers were dispatched at 5:17 p.m. on July 5, 2014, to 915 SW Springfield Drive in Ankeny. The caller reported that the resident at the address was armed with a gun and was suicidal.

Police officers arrived and encountered Marilyn Denise Boyd, 59 years of age, armed with a semi-automatic firearm. Boyd refused to drop the weapon and was shot by Ankeny police officer Aaron King after Boyd pointed the gun at Officer King and his partner. Boyd was transported to Mercy Hospital where she later died from her wounds.

Officer King has five years of experience with the Ankeny Police Department. Police have learned that Boyd had a blood alcohol content of 0.145 when she was admitted to Mercy Hospital following the shooting. Autopsy reports indicate Boyd died as a result of two gunshot wounds. Autopsy reports including forensics reports will remain sealed until presented to the Grand Jury.

“We have several obligations moving forward in this case, including the preservation of evidence and facts that remain exclusive material for the grand jury. Additionally, we remain attendant to the needs of our police officers and their welfare. We continue regular and ongoing communication with family members and relatives of Marilyn Denise Boyd as we learn more details. We are grateful to the family for their expression of support for everyone involved,” commented Ankeny Police Chief Gary Mikulec.

The case is expected to be presented by Polk County prosecutors to the Grand Jury on Aug. 25.

the fast announcement of the autopsy report tells me that the police have nothing to hide in this case. I know of many police killings where the autopsy report wasnt released for 6 months.

Police that shoot people are usually rewarded with a week or two paid vacation

I know and it’s scary. We take these young people and give them a gun and tell them all they have to do is say there were scared and they can kill anyone. Even older cops now say they couldn’t believe they were allowed barge into peoples homes and kill dogs in pot raids. Even they knew it was foolish to give them that much power. We are a sick nation that flew off the rails over the “drug war”. It all started with Nixon and then Reagan.

@NoNIt-And it really went down the tubes when a bunch of idiots elected the liar In Chief Osama Obama.

It didn’t go completely down the tunes in the past 5 years. It took forty. The whole time you have been voting. Your generation let everything go to hell. Thanks for the attempt at being sanctimonious. I needed a good chuckle.

@NewsFlash-Here is a News Flash for you. Grow up and get a life you damn whiner. If you ever accomplish half of the things I have you will be something instead of a troll like you are.

Don’t break your own arm patting yourself on the back. My generation thanks your generation for the mess.

@Anonymous-Having a piece of crap like you in your generation certainly won’t help. Big mouths like you do nothing but ruin it for the working people wit brains. Something you know nothing about.

Can we please change the name of the website already? The only reason I check this site everyday is to see what LVS is going to say next, and he rarely disappoints. Keep on keepin on LVS, you make me laugh one way or another every day. As Annie Savoy said in Bull Durham, “The world is made for those who aren’t cursed with self-awareness.”

Let’s make Maybe a cop. He takes Oxy, loves guns and likes to shoot to kill. Maybe he can transfer his hatred to kill count.

Another loser that doesn’t know me yet wants to attack me.

@maybe-I know some illegal drug users you could target practice on.

What is oxy anyway?

In the old days if you shot and killed an unarmed woman you be nothing but a yellow murderer. Yep, he’s yeller alright.

What’s with all this shoot to kill business? Geez, I’m sure if you shot a drunk woman in the leg, she would drop her gun and give up. These cops are ravenous, blood thirsty sharks. They are acting this way because the NRA has restored gun rights to Iowans and the cops are pissed about it. They liked it better when the citizens were unarmed. Now, they justify that because the general population is armed more frequently, they have justification to step up use of deadly force.

The thing is peter the size of a bullet is very small and trying to hit another small object like a leg in a stressful situation is very hard to do plus if you miss you could hit someone else, that’s why we train to shoot for center mass, a bigger target with less chance of over penetration. If you ever shot someone that is drunk or high most of the time just 1 bullet wouldn’t stop them so a shot in the leg wouldn’t do anything.

Er, no, I have not shot someone who is drunk or high. Have you? ARe you a police officer Maybe, or were you a soldier in Iraq? You’re confusing me. I’m not buying what you’re saying. Police should be better trained, and more expert shooters than the general public. Don’t they use red dot or laser? They are looking for a chance to finally kill someone, and like the fad taking off mufflers, the fad is for police to be able to easily kill. The public just twiddles their thumbs.

I worked with the Yavapai county sheriffs office in Arizona, a civilian observer and went out on patrol 4 nights a week for 3 years. I had to take the same tests and train with firearms with the deputies. after that I joined the military.

Translation: Drank the koool aide then joined up to go work in the factory after you couldn’t pass the psych test?

Holy crap! You nailed that one!

actually I did pass the psych test. I already had a good paying job, this just kept me busy at night.

@maybe-Having a good paying job is something these trolls know nothing about. You are just going to confuse them.

What a noble cause “to be kept busy”. Your life coach must have been so proud.

Such hostility from someone that doesn’t even know me.

In response to your statement about police should be better trained, you are right. Back then, late 80’s early 90’s, we had to spend at least 8 hours a month on the range but now your novice shooter spends more time on the range than your police officer. Take new York as an example, they’ve shot more innocent bystanders than criminals.

It’s called the militarization of the police and Maybe’s comment should tell you a lot why this is happening.

Is that any reason to kill her??

Alcohol does wonderful things to a persons train of thought…
