Democrats to hold rally Saturday in Mason City “for Iowa working families”

Representative Sharon Steckman and Senator Amanda Ragan

MASON CITY – Local Democratic legislators will hold a rally this weekend in Mason City to protest a bill introduced in the Iowa Legislature they say will “strip away workers’ rights.”

North Iowa legislators Representative Sharon Steckman, Representative Todd Prichard and Senator Amanda Ragan will hold a “Rally for Iowa Working Families” to fight against the bill introduced in the Iowa House and Senate that they claim strips away the rights of workers. The three lawmakers are holding the rally, they said in a statement, to give citizens in north central Iowa an opportunity to stand up for the teachers, firefighters, police officers, state, county and city workers, and other public servants in our community.

All are invited to attend, they say.

Prior to the rally, a forum is scheduled to be held at the public library from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. The legislators plan to walk to Central Park from there, and invite everyone to join.

WHO: Legislative members Rep. Steckman, Rep. Prichard & Senator Ragan

WHEN: Saturday, February 11, 2017, 12:00 PM

Hundreds of teachers, law enforcement, nurses, and other working families packed the State Capitol this week in an effort to stop a bill that denies a voice to those in their own workplace. Democrats say this legislation “will deal a serious blow to hard working Iowans.”
