MASON CITY – A Mason City man caught at least twice in recent months with illegal drugs got a sentence of probation and suspended prison for his latest arrest for meth possession with intent to deliver.
Joshua Ross Hopper, age 35, was caught in December with meth in Cerro Gordo county. He later entered a guilty plea to a felony controlled substance violation and was given a suspended 10-year prison sentence, a suspended $1,000 fine, three years of probation and was ordered to pay $882.00 in court fees and costs.
Hopper is no stranger to drug crimes.
During a warrant check on December 4, 2015, a Mason City police officer discovered that Hopper was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and illegal prescription drugs. Hopper was also found to have a dangerous weapon as the officer checked out 540 East State Street. Hopper was arrested on a felony drug possession charge and a charge of carrying weapons. Hopper later pleaded guilty to felony possession of an illegal drug in a correctional facility, carrying weapons and meth possession. Other drug charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to a 5-year prison sentence which was suspended, ordered to pay $1,977.75 in fines and court fees and sent to jail for 14 days.
Hopper was also caught by Mason City police in March of 2016 drunk driving and later pled guilty. He owes $1,881.50 in fines and court fees in that case.

So lets just keep on giving him probation because that is taking care of the problem here? These judges are just as bad as the people that come in their court!
