Opinion: Open Letter to John Skipper about Eric Bookmeyer

Good morning John

Your column had started with all the attributes of Oatmeal without the blueberries on top. It could’ve been Toast with no butter, it was mired in trivia about issues that have come and gone; I will give you credit for digging them up and laying them out once more. But I can assure you whatever portion of the citizenry in this community were responsible for these accomplishments – that percentage was minuscule. It wasn’t because more citizens were invited to participate, it was because these are issues that were decided pretty much behind closed doors without asking or for that matter… inviting opinions of the hoi polloi.

Personally I give a big thumbs up to the Park Inn hotel project. I think it will eventually return the investment many times over due to visits of tourists who are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright and his work. The finished results were first class, couldn’t be better.

Now John I don’t give a rat’s ass how hard you really try, but you’ll never be able to tie some run-of-the-mill hotel, built in a parking lot, to the work of the world renowned architect Frank Loyd Wright; these two entities don’t belong in the same room or on the same sheet of paper.

I was a proponent of the renovation of the Mason City Public Library. That building and land are a national treasure, it is in a class all by itself. You are not allowed to use it as a comparable in any situation.

You were careful to mention the Susie Q, Hy-Vee, Pro’s and Hardee’s hoping the mention of their haunts will lead them to follow your path and vote for a bad deal… a very bad deal. These are the exact same voters who sent Andy O’Brien home badly beaten… not because of who he is… because in his real life he’s a good guy. When he aligned himself with Eric Bookmeyer, those middle-class citizens who are never invited to offer their ideas or opinions on community projects, sent Andy O’Brien home with his tail between his legs. While you may hope they will swallow your hook, I know for certain they will not.

John, I graduated from Aluminum Siding University magna cum laude with a doctorate in deception. We turned down the lights… held hands and summoned deceased husbands to get their opinion on whether or not their widows should re-side the house. And strange as it may seem each and everyone we spoke with urged their widows to go forward and re-side the house. I ask you what are the odds of that? They are about the same as having our council vote 31 times in succession in favor of everything Bookmeyer wanted. Rare occasions for sure.

Today you worked in your kitchen cooking up pablum in an all-you-can-eat buffet… until at the end you gave in to your addiction by inviting the Dark Knight to sit at the table. You even grouped him into a category you labeled as young leaders. You’re a sly fox John… this is Lucifer we’re talking about, this is the guy who’s first order of business was to try and shut down the public forum once he was elected. He closed down the office of Human Rights, he wanted to lay off all the sanitation workers during the Christmas season. The list goes on. And On. What this “young leader” did was unthinkable… truly unimaginable. You couldn’t inject enough adjectives into this man’s Wiki description and stay under 1000 words. This guy loaded every board and committee in the city with people who will do his bidding, real greedy Chamber drunks; he’s seriously ill and you think he’s a young leader? You might want to re-think that. What he really is is the anti-Christ; some say a taker of lives.

This is the same guy that in one fell swoop would have gladly destroyed the property values of the entire city we all live in, but that story has already been told and the damage is done… as you know. Bookmeyer’s highly toxic John… keeping getting in bed with him could prove fatal – like getting AIDS from a hot hooker. It’s been known to happen, it’s fun one time only, then you pay forever.
