Power Outage Saturday Morning Causes Problems on Mason City’s South Side

MASON CITY – The Mason City Fire Department was dispatched to Heartland Community Credit Union, 1602 S. Monroe, shortly before 8:00 am Saturday morning due to a smoke alarm.

The fire fighters were investigating and waiting for a key holder when an employee of Pizza Ranch, Brad Beek, explained that the restaurant had lost electrical power around the same time.

“I hope they get it turned on soon, I have a couple big parties to get ready for,” said Beek.

At 8:33 am, it was determined that the smoke alarm at Heartland Credit Union was due to power failure in the neighborhood.

UPDATE: Alliant Energy confirmed that there was a power outage in the south part of Mason City, but by 9:00 AM, all customers should have power back on. It was reported that a squirrel caused the problem.
