MASON CITY – A traffic stop turned into a pursuit Saturday night on gravel roads south of Mason City, leading to two arrests.

On Saturday night, January 21, 2017, at about 8:58 PM, a Cerro Gordo County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup near Partridge Avenue and Owl Avenue for a traffic violation. The pickup refused to stop. The pursuit went on for several miles on various gravel roads in Cerro Gordo County.

The pursuit later ended in a field with no injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Danny Lee Belcher, age 45 of Rockwell, was arrested for eluding and possession of a controlled substance, both class D felonies.

The passenger, Vanessa Rose Belcher, age 42 of Rockwell, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a class B felony; failure to affix tax stamp, a class D felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.

Both the pickup and a sheriff’s office vehicle sustained minor damage.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Rockwell EMS, Rockwell Police Department, and Mason City Fire Medics.
