NIACC’s Khat wins 800, Sahr wins high jump at Wartburg indoor meet

WAVERLY – NIACC’s Wal Khat won the men’s 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 1.60 seconds at the Wartburg College Chelsey M. Henkenius Open Saturday.

It’s the second straight weekend that Khat won an individual event. Khat won the 600-meter dash and the mile on Jan. 14 at the University of Dubuque Sol Butler Classic.

NIACC’s Patricia Sahr won the women’s high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

Also in the 800 for the Trojans Saturday, Jose Aguilera was fifth (2:05.54), Blake Keller was seventh (2:07.54), Samuel Dean was 10th (2:07.78) and John Kraft was 13th (2:12.75).

Khat also ran a leg on the Trojans’ 4×400-meter relay team that was fourth in 3:32.30. Others on the 4×400 team were Ethan Klasi, Ben VanHorn and Scott Hengesteg.

The NIACC men placed seventh with 30 points. Host Wartburg won the meet with 223.5 points.

The Trojans’ distance medley relay team of Aguilera, Klasi, David Carter and Keller placed second (10:58.92).

Also for the Trojans, Canyon Kuhlmann was seventh in the 600 (1:33.21) and Andre McKinney was ninth in the high jump (5-7 1.4).

In the mile, Dean was ninth (4:44.94) and Kraft was 11th (4:46.94).

The NIACC women placed sixth with 24 points with Sahr’s first-place finish in the high jump leading the way.

Also for the NIACC women, Cailey Weaver was second in the 800 (2:21.14) and Kendra Schmidt was ninth in the 800 (2:37.63).

The Lady Trojans’ distance medley relay team of Schmidt, Weaver, Keisha Gonzague and Amy Fullerton was third in 14:08.16.

The NIACC men’s and women’s track teams return to action Friday at the University of Northern Iowa Invitational.
