In his usual Monday column John Skipper offers the option of resentment to consider when reflecting on the failed C.E.S. proposal that recently flunked the sniff test.
He does not mention Max Weaver by name but he strongly eludes that Max cast the only descending vote not to move towards further study. No where does John mention this was…and still is unproven science. He failed to include that these fine folk who brought their carnival act here were turned away at numerous other communities before…and with good reason. He fail to mention that health risk was the center issue in the rejection, that and the suspicious “rush” to finalize as brought forth by Turnquist at his first North Iowa Landfill meeting where he tried unsuccessfully to throw his weighted vote around. He horribly misjudged those fella’s with the seed corn caps on.
He failed to mention that 99% of anything our mayor brings up is viewed with suspicion; our illustrious mayor has little creditably left in this city due mostly to his public behavior and wanton disregard towards the respect the public office he commands deserves.. Brent Willett is at best a bush league player who needs immunization against City Hall. Bookmeyer is grabbing at straws trying hard to create something he can point to use as a reason to re-elected him…and it just isn’t there. Bookmeyer is in the trench as I write these words trying to dismantle the public works department and throw out about a dozen families onto the street. He wants to blow the better part of 100K to move his desk; he wants to rearrange the Fire Department and while doing it get rid of the union. You need not be a political science major to recognize what’s going on here…panic.
John Skipper just gave you a part of the story, the part he likes best. Having said that let me go on; I like John skipper, he is very bright and much more articulate than I will ever be but I think he’s riding on the wrong bus…..
Peter Children
Couple things The globe won’t print anything Peter writes because he busts it all wide open same with Weaver and NIT. Sorry Peter Skipper is about the most ignorant thing around. Who can’t see all of this he has supported for years. News reporting should not be a one sided story ever. Unless it’s the truth as NIT has displayed, which though NIT does give the other side in full. He has never ever been logical or see the other side yet! I cannot believe this organization LEE ENT would keep this fossil on. Not to mention he talks like ha has a mouth full of shit. Globe get some fresh new hip writers with open minds or better yet with truthful minds. Something like Matt with NIT. You are waaay behind the times …maybe why you are going broke?
Mr. Children beats the globe everytime. They gave him a golden pen award!!! Now they try to mock him and NIT. Can’t have it both ways. The globe has eaten so much crow they have sprouted wings. I will be getting all my news right here at the best news website, NIT.
I too support some change in city government, but not with these 7 idiots!! They think or should I say know, that they are smarter than anyone else in MC. They don’t ask anyone for their opinion. Not even department heads. These people are dangerous. Don’t let them fix something that is not broke!!! They are stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. There are many ways to save city money, all they have to do is ask. All the changes that they are considering will in fact cost MC taxpayers more!!!!!!!!!!!
“There are many ways to save city money, all they have to do is ask.”
So I will ask… Where are the areas to save money? Share the knowledge! I will gladly forward it for consideration by the “seven idiots” if you are too shy! Dont keep the secret! Unless you are one of the seven!
I support the new mayor and council.
It was a time for a major change in the city government.
The county board of supervisors has to get the next makeover.
$76,500.00 is the better psrt of $100K
Thanks for the math class, Mr Obvious!
What happened peter were you getting blasted too hard on your article to ban peoples gun rights so you had to come up with some more nonsense.
Peter you have lost it!!!!!!
curious as to why peter has to read the globe and then write his twist on what is written? Peter can you also tell me where anyone has said that they were trying to get rid of the union. You yourself said they would have to hire more firefighters so what does this have to do with the unioun?
Seems a touch ironic to include this statement … “He failed to mention that 99% of anything our mayor brings up is viewed with suspicion” … in an article that (I think) is attempting to debunk the notion that resentment had anything with the CES thing failing.
Wasn’t really sure about this program, is the technology safe?
That is a question a lot of us would like to know the answer to. This company never gave the same answer twice.
Thanks Sandy for talking about the supposed 50+ jobs. The Globe never could report it RIGHT. If you can’t even get the math right what else have they left our or written to suit THEM The GLOBE)? Read the Globe if you like and waste your money but not me!!!!!!
Skippers Politics of Resentment.Using this method is nation wide. Why not in Mason City?
I have two comments on John Skippers article. One he says more than 50 jobs were lost. NOT so. The company said, “we can do it on far less but we like Mason City so we won’t go automated. Lets see how long the investors would have let that happen. Second thing, how Scott Tornquist handled himself at first landfill meeting was inexcusable. He was a bully,he was about what HE wanted and no concern for how the other board members felt. It’s going to be along two years for the landfill board.
Peter, why does he have to name Max? Is it only a requirement on NIT? Those in the know, know! We do not need to pay homage to Max at every moment do we? What value-add does it have? His point was made!
The technology is not “unproven” according to the DOE.
The office remodel project is @$60k last I understood and not $100k. I dont like the project either though!
Brent Willett is far from a bush-league player. If you look at this, he had to bring it to the table and have it “vetted” by the process. Who is going to rightfully walk away from the that type of opportunity? Oh, yeah, you!
Bookmeyer is grabbing at straws, I will agree. However, I believe he is TRYING to make budgets work, make the city more viable financially and for corporations looking to locate here.
If we do the same thing, the same way, over and over, expecting different results, we are just as dillusional as some of your diatribes!
