Britt man sentenced after crimes in Hancock county

GARNER – A Britt man who was sent to jail for causing trouble at Mercy Hospital got a fresh batch of punishment this week in Hancock county.

On Tuesday, January 3, 28-year-old Timothy Curtis Lange appeared in Hancock District Court for sentencing on the charges of burglary in the third degree, a class D felony; and assault on a peace officer, a serious misdemeanor. The court suspended a 5-year sentence on the burglary and a 1-year sentence on the assault and place him on probation for 3-5 years with placement at a residential correctional facility for 6 months as a condition of probation. The court also ordered Lange to complete substance abuse and mental health treatment as conditions of probation.

Lange got in trouble in Mason City last year, when on January 31, 2016 at 12:56 PM, Mercy Hospital called police about a patient acting erratic and out of control. Officers arrived and were directed to Lange, who was bleeding from his arm. Police say he had apparently run through some of the hallways and rooms and intentionally destroyed hospital equipment. Police had approached Lange and tied to arrest him.  However, he allegedly resisted arrest and tried to kick and flail at officers, and even spit in one officer’s face, before they subdued him. The repair estimate for the damages allegedly caused by Lange was $1,500, police told NIT.

In July, Lange pled guilty to third-degree criminal mischief and aggravated assault on a peace officer. He was sentenced to two 30-day jail terms to be served concurrently. He must also pay $898.25 in fines and court fees.
