United Way collects 900 pairs of shoes in Cerro Gordo County

MASON CITY, IOWA – United Way of North Central Iowa would like to thank community members for donating to the Shoe Drive. Without your support, the Shoe Drive would not have been successful.

United Way collected 1,351 pairs of athletic shoes in North Central Iowa. Shoes were distributed at local “Back to School” events or given directly to school districts to help students in need. United Way hopes that sending a child back to school with a new pair of tennis shoes will help improve self-esteem and increase physical activity. Shoes donated in each county, stayed in that county.

Number of pairs of athletic shoes collected:
Cerro Gordo County: 900 pairs
Floyd County: 69 pairs
Franklin County: 50 pairs
Hancock County: 170 pairs
Kossuth County: 60 pairs
Mitchell County: 22 pairs
Winnebago County: 80 pairs

United Way would also like to thank the following businesses for partnering with us during the Shoe Drive: Art’s Shoes, Bonnie’s Treasures, Decker Sports, Goodnatures Store, Hutzell’s, Kmart, Krysmart, Nu2U Consignments, Pamida, Payless, Target, and Walmart.

Thank you again to those who gave athletic shoes, donated money or volunteered at a distribution event. United Way appreciates your help improving the lives of children in our area. If you would like to donate athletic shoes or give a monetary donation for next year’s Shoe Drive, please stop by the United Way office at 600 First Street NW, Suite 102 in Mason City.
