Search for missing Northern Iowa man ends in tragedy

HAMILTON COUNTY - Police searched for a missing Northern Iowa man in a wooded area and unfortunately, tragedy unfolded.

HAMILTON COUNTY – Police searched for a missing Northern Iowa man in a wooded area and unfortunately, tragedy unfolded.

On September 10, 2023, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Officer requesting assistance in locating a male subject.

According to Hamilton county sheriff Douglas D. Timmons, the male subject’s vehicle had been parked in the parking area of the Boone Forks Wildlife Management Area at 318th Street and Stagecoach Road for an extended period. The area was searched, and law enforcement officials were unable to locate the male. This search was then called off due to darkness.

On September 11th, law enforcement did an extensive search of the area and were able to locate the male and he was deceased. The male is identified as Timothy Banker 44, of Stratford. Police say there is no threat to the public regarding this incident and the cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa DNR Law Enforcement, the Iowa State Patrol, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Ellsworth Jewell Stanhope Police Department, Stratford Fire and Rescue, Hamilton County and Webster County Emergency Management, Webster City and Hamilton County GIS, Hamilton County Engineer’s Office, and Hamilton County Medical Examiner.
