Attempted child abduction reported in Webster City

WEBSTER CITY - A man offered a young child money to get in his car at an Iowa gas station, but a store clerk ushered the child to safety and cops are hunting a suspect.

WEBSTER CITY – A man offered a young child money to get in his car at an Iowa gas station, but a store clerk ushered the child to safety and cops are hunting a suspect.

On September 11, 2023 at 8:19 PM, the Webster City Police Department received a report of a possible attempted child enticement at Yes Way located at 1102 Second Street in Webster City. Officers arrived and learned a male had offered a child under ten years of age money to get into his vehicle. An individual at the store overheard the conversation and asked the child if they knew the male. When the child stated they did not, the individual walked the child into the store and police were called.

The male is identified as a Hispanic male wearing a dark ball cap and dark hoodie sweatshirt with the Jack Skellington character on it. The vehicle was described as a dark SUV. Officers reviewed store video from the time of the incident. A photo from the incident is above.

At this time the investigation in ongoing and additional resources have been added to locate the individual and vehicle. If anyone can identify the male or the vehicle, they are encouraged to contact the Webster City Police Department at (515) 832-9166.
