MASON CITY – The Chicago Cubs have included the Mason City Public Library Mason City Room on their “World Series Trophy Tour” and you will be able to see the trophy next month.
The Actual World Series Trophy will be on display in the Mason City Room on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM for public viewing. There will be armed guards protecting the trophy while it is on display.

The World Series Trophy, also known as the Commissioner’s Trophy, was originally created by Major League Baseball in 1967. The 24-inch trophy features 30 flags, one for each MLB team, with latitude/longitude lines symbolizing the world, and 24-karat vermeil stitches representing those on a baseball. The Sterling silver trophy weighs approximately 20 pounds and stands 24 inches high with a diameter of 11 inches. Each year, one full-sized trophy is constructed and presented to the winner of the World Series by the Baseball Commissioner.
The Cubs’ 2017 Home Opener is scheduled for April 10.
