Fore! Man allegedly beats person with golf club, steals truck

CLEAR LAKE – You get more distance if you swing a golf club in a controlled state of mind, but this nugget of data apparently slipped the mind of a Clear Lake man who struck a person instead of a ball and then stole their pickup truck.

The incident took place on or before the morning of December 19, when 59-year-old Ronald Allan Decker was at or near his him in the 19000 block of Hickory Avenue. The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office tells NIT that Decker allegedly assaulted two people he knows and took their pickup without their permission.

“One victim was hit with a golf club,” Sheriff Kevin Pals explained. There was no word on any possible injuries or hospitalizations.

At about 9:16 AM that morning, deputies arrived and arrested Decker. He was taken to the county jail on several charges, including felony second-degree theft, aggravated misdemeanor assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, simple assault and criminal mischief.

Decker remains in the county jail at this time on $8,000.00 cash or surety bond as he awaits a court date on December 28.
