MASON CITY – Tonight, around 8 pm, 14 yr old Austin Jager of Mason City was reported as a missing person. Austin was last seen in the area of Arby’s on 4th ST SW. He was wearing blue jeans, a brown Carhart jacket, and a blue long-sleeve t-shirt with a Minion character with the word “Awesome” on it. He is described as approx. 5 feet tall and 85 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a shaved head. A picture is attached from 3 days ago.
Austin is believed to be in the Mason City area and on foot. He left after a family disagreement and is believed to be upset. If you know of Austin’s whereabouts, please do not confront him but contact law enforcement.

Apparently the family nor the child gets to have any privacy about the struggles they live with, with a special needs child that it has to be announced before someone has understanding and empathy of the situation. Truth is, it’s no one’s business what was going on. The police say a danger or thread to the child’s safety and acted appropriately. I’d hope that if it was my child missing, I’d have the same support from the police, rescue, and citizens as this kid did.
Anyone bitching about receiving a phone call before midnight to declare a boy possibly in danger apparently has some real big issues in their life.

10:30 pm I was up to answer phone call from city” emergency conditions” advising me to be on the look out for this kid. I was up again to answer “EC” telling me he had been found. I feel this was misuse of the Emergency Conditions system.
I agree. He was not abducted. Just had a argument with his mother. It is up to the family to maintain discipline. Everyone wants to complain about the police, but then they call them for things they should take care of themselves.
This was absolutely not a misuse! There are reasons on why it was important to find this boy, and I will not go into them on here.reverse 911 is to alert people to immediate danger. This boy isn’t just some naughty teenager that ran off. I think you can handle 2 phone calls to save a boys life. Luckily someone that wasn’t a salty old bitch called the police when they spotted him walking around the hospital.
