CLEAR LAKE, IOWA – The weather fully cooperated Saturday for the annual Color the Wind kite festival in Clear Lake.
“It was a perfect day for the Color the Wind kite festival!” one Mason City man beamed. “Kite flying is the coolest. People have been doing it since the beginning of time. It’s such a simple and fun activity. I need more kites in my life.”
Color the Wind is said to be the largest winter kite festival in the Midwest with serious kite flyers from 8 states traveling to the Clear Lake seawall to display their collections of unique kites, banners and ground displays. It has become a favorite event for families and parents to take their kids to.
The Clear Lake United Methodist Church offered hot chocolate and goodies to those who were attending the event; temps reached the lower 40s.
Ice-thickness wasn’t deemed a problem prior to the event, even though folks would be out on the ice.
However, there were reports of at least two vehicles that cracked through the ice.
Warm weather is making ice on Clear Lake a little thin, as these two motorists found out today… no injuries reported
