Heavy, wet snow pounds North Iowa

MASON CITY – Old man winter is back.

Heavy, wet snow has fallen across the North Iowa area and continued to fall late Thursday morning. School was cancelled in Mason City due to the storm, which dropped at least 3-4 inches of snow.

The national weather service said Thursday that the snow-sleet-rain mix will continue to push east slowly and another 1-4 inches of snow could be expected through the afternoon.

In Mason City, city crews will conduct snow removal throughout the day. They will not be plowing gravel streets and alleys since they have recently been graded and gravel added.

According to the Iowa DOT, accumulating snow over a wide portion of Iowa today will cause slick roads. Iowa DOT crews are out in the impacted areas of the state clearing slush and snow. Travelers are urged to evaluate the need for travel and if you must travel, slow down and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and other vehicles.

Iowa road conditions are currently being reported as mostly to completely covered with slush and snow in the southwest, central and north central portions of the state.

We were all doing just fine until the city came by and plowed everyone back in. Thanks a lot jerks.

Not plowing the alleys? Mine hasn’t been graded or had any gravel added to it.

Thanks Obama!

I couldn’t get out at all today, they put gravel down yesterday. Didn’t they see the forecast we all saw? I could shovel my back drive but couldn’t get out of the alley. The least they could have done is drive the truck down the alley a couple of times to make a path to drive on, that was all that was needed.
