MANCHESTER, IA – Police in this small Northeast Iowa community announced the arrest of an alleged serial burglar.
According to Manchester Chief of Police James R Hauschild, on August 13, 2014 the Manchester Police Department completed a 10-week investigation into a series of burglaries that had taken place in Manchester. On May 26th, 2014 the Manchester Police Department received two complaints. The first complaint was called in by the Eagles Club. The complainant informed police that the business had been broken into. The business had been damaged and items were missing from inside the establishment. The second complaint was called in by Widner Drug. The complainant informed police someone had damaged the alarm system. No forced entry was made into the establishment.
On August 4th, 2014 the Manchester Police Department received two complaints of burglaries that had taken place during the early morning hours. The first complaint was received from the Sunset Restaurant. The complainant advised police that the business had been broken into. Items inside the business had been damaged and items were missing from the establishment. The second complaint was received from the Blue Collar bar. The complainant informed police that the business had been broken into. The business had been damaged and items were missing from inside the establishment.
Arrested and charged was 35-year-old Thomas Jerome Smith III from Manchester, Iowa. He was charged with:
3 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree
1 count of Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree
1 count of Possession of Burglary Tools
1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
