Northern Iowa man crashes his 1968 Chevy pickup, helicoptered to hospital

MILFORD, IOWA - A Northern Iowa man crashed his old pickup truck and was ejected from the vehicle, and police responded after a cell phone detected the crash.

MILFORD, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man crashed his old pickup truck and was ejected from the vehicle, and police responded after a cell phone detected the crash.

The Dickinson county sheriff’s office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 2500 mile of 260th street, rural Milford, that was reported by an iPhone that detected a crash at 3:34 PM on April 12, 2024.

Robert Houseman, age 65 of Estherville, was driving a 1968 Chevy pickup westbound on 260th street and lost control, went into the south ditch and rolled into the field. Houseman was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Houseman was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with incapacitating injuries and then life flighted to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. The vehicle was totalled.
