Ida Klinkenborg passed away on April 14 at the age of 104. She was born October 25, 1919, in Sheldon, Iowa, the ninth child of Egbertus and Bertha (Grave) Groote’s ten children. This year was also the momentous passage of the Nineteenth amendment; the right for woman to vote.
Ida completed the required eight years of education in the one-room rural schoolhouses which served her well. Her beautiful penmanship never wavered as her years of daily journaling kept track of the family history.
In 1938, Ida and Russell Klinkenborg were united in marriage. This ambitious young couple moved from northwest Iowa to Minnesota as their family expanded to eight children: Karen (Darrel) Kirchner, Leona Susan d., Robert Joseph d., Ruth (Wendell) Pieper, Sally (Patrick) Meany, Anita Ellison, John (Sandy Lursen) Klinkenborg, Todd Klinkenborg, 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren. Gramma Ida knew each and every name and birthdate of these precious additions.
In 1961 Russell and Ida purchased a farm near Rushmore, MN. After Russell’s passing in 2003, Ida moved to White Bear Lake, MN near family. In 2023 Ida relocated to Estherville joining her extended Iowan family.
