MASON CITY – An officer followed an apparent drunk driver and after witnessing apparent erratic driving, stopped the vehicle and made the arrest early Saturday.
Police reported that at about 1:04 AM Saturday morning March 22, an officer stopped a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Courtney Alysha Sgontz of Mason City near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and 8th Street SE. The officer reported the Sgontz had jumped a curb right before he pulled her over.
The arresting officer conducted a breath alcohol test at 2:43 AM on a female subject at the Cerro Gordo County Jail (Not necessarily Sgontz, but it was the only test given to a female subject on March 22). The subject registered a blood alcohol level of 0.149 in two attempts.
Sgontz was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and later released, pending a court date.

She was arrested for OWI – so she shouldn’t of been behind the wheel in the first place.
If I were this young lady I would ask to see the Police dash camera. She has that right
@Anonymous-I think I have said this before, but here it is again. If you are out driving after 10:30 PM and the police see you they will find a reason (or make one up) to pull you over to check you. Is it illegal (yes it is) but they do it any way. It may be something as simple as a license plate light but that won’t matter if you are over the limit. The answer is easy, don’t drink and drive.
And that’s why I say that some of these drivers/ criminals need to start asking to see that camera and in this case I feel this young lady should do just that . The officer claims he observed her jumping a curb and that was the reason he pulled her over, the video doesn’t lie so if the video shows her NOT jumping a curb he had no right to pull her over on a hunch.
If half these people around here had any sense or knowledge of their rights I bet some would be found innocent.
And by the looks of her picture here and her supposed 0.149 level she sure looks wide awake to me She looks pretty thin in body weight
@Anonymous-They will just say they have cleared it and won’t show it to you. I tried that the last time they pulled me over for speeding when I wa the middle car in a four car line. He claimed he had me on radar and when I asked to see the radar he said he had already cleared it. I finally told him I would be happy to take any test he wantedas soon as my laywer show Ikept asking why he pulled me over until he got mad and threw my license and insurance card at me and told me to get out of…
I agree however even if they clear the radar there should be a log of it with in the radar I would guess. Many people should install a camera in their cars for these purposes and for many other purposes for that matter.
Hopefully this arrest will get her attention, before she hurts somebody.
