Iowa man arrested for hitting another man in face with baseball bat

RURAL NORTH IOWA – Earlier this week, a man was hospitalized locally before being sent to Iowa City to treat an injury he sustained when another man smashed him in the face with a baseball bat.

According to law enforcement, on the afternoon of August 12, 2014, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a disturbance at a rural Oelwein residence. Upon further investigation by sheriff’s deputies, James Uluaki Wright, age 39 of rural Oelwein, was arrested and charged with willful injury (class C felony) after deputies determined that James Wright had struck 35-year-old Robert M. Elliott of Oelwein with a baseball bat in the face.

Robert Elliott was taken to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein by Mercy Ambulance to be treated for injuries sustained in the assault and he was later transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

James Wright was also charged with violation of a no contact order and a probation violation warrant (original charge of domestic assault). Flora Mae Epley, age 34, was arrested on a charge of simple assault at the scene after she had assaulted a minor female in front of deputies. Both subjects were taken to the Fayette County Jail and will appear before a magistrate. Oelwein Police assisted at the scene.
