MASON CITY – Cops chased a wanted Rockwell man through a North End neighborhood Saturday evening.

Officers with the Mason City police department and the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office were involved in apprehending 25-year-old Lee Alan Best of Rockwell, who was wanted on a warrant in connection with a domestic assault. Officers located Best, who fled on foot, but police quickly tracked him down and arrested him.

Best was arrested by Cerro Gordo Deputies after a March 2, 2014 domestic assault incident. Best was given a deferred judgement and one year of probation by Judge Ronald Wagenaar. He was ordered to pay $287.92 in court costs and fines, but records show he never made a payment. He was arrested again on March 31 for domestic assault in Burchinal; this time, he pled guilty, leading to a probation revocation charge and the warrant for his arrest. He also still owes the entire $345.68 he was assessed in that case.

Best is serving two days in jail and is set to be released later Sunday.
