dollars-moneyDES MOINES – The Board of Directors of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union approved an increase for admission to all state tournaments (except golf and tennis) effective with softball, 2014. The admission will now be $10. However, State Cross Country will remain at $10 per car.

It has been six to 10 years, depending on the sport, since the cost of the state tournament ticket has increased. During that time expenses have continued to rise with regard to venue costs, Participating Team Allowances, awards,, official’s pay and mileage, cost of workers such as PA announcers, scorebook, scoreboard operators, cost of the Farm Bureau ball provided to participating teams, etc,. For several of the IGHSAU state tournaments, fans can watch multiple games (up to seven for basketball) on a single ticket. With the use of wristbands, fans can now even leave to get something to eat and return that same day on the same ticket admission.

“We believe that we are “the cheapest ticket in town,” said Mike Dick IGHSAU Executive Director.

The joint committee for the IGHSAU and IHSAA will be studying the possibility of charging admission in some manner for golf and tennis at its August 1 meeting.
