MASON CITY – A Clear Lake woman is spending the next 30 days in jail for allowing her infant son to inhale marijuana smoke.
Skylar R. Retterath, age 20, escaped a felony charge of child endangerment when she accepted a plea deal on May 12, 2014, to child endangerment resulting in no injury. Retterath was arrested in connection with a December 18, 2013 incident in Clear Lake involving her young son. Retterath was charged with felony C child endangerment causing serious injury and aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment with no injury after authorities alleged that her son was left in an unsupervised area and ingested marijuana smoke. The substance later showed up in the boy’s system when authorities conducted a test on him.
Retterath was previously engaged to the boy’s father, 25-year-old Nathaniel Gabrielson, also of Clear Lake. He escaped the same felony charge as Retterath and took a plea deal that landed him in jail for 50 days.

This type of incident will only get worse as more and more acceptance of the mind altering drug continues.
The headline doesn’t make sense, is she from Clear Lake or Northwood? Is the guy from Clear Lake as stated? Very confusing story.
Thank you for pointing this out. A previous draft of the story was published, instead of the final. We believe the young lady lives in CL, since she claims to work at the Culver’s restaurant there.
